Questions About Your Healing Journey
We understand you may have questions about our resources, courses, and approach to grief support. These frequently asked questions address the most common inquiries we receive.
What makes GoHopeful different from other grief resources?
GoHopeful combines Biblical wisdom with practical, tested strategies for processing grief and rebuilding after loss. We do not offer quick fixes or pretend grief is simple. Instead, we provide honest guidance that acknowledges how difficult this journey is while offering concrete tools that actually work. Our approach is rooted in Christian faith but addresses the real struggles believers face when grief shakes their foundation. We walk alongside you without rushing your process or minimizing your pain.
Is GoHopeful only for people grieving death?
No. While many of our participants are grieving the death of a loved one, our resources address all types of significant loss including divorce, job loss, health crises, shattered dreams, broken relationships, and major life transitions. Any experience that has fundamentally disrupted your life and left you feeling lost qualifies as grief, and our resources can help you process it.
I'm not sure I believe in God anymore after my loss. Are your resources still appropriate for me?
Yes. Many people who come to GoHopeful are wrestling with serious doubts about their faith. Our resources do not require you to have perfect faith or pretend everything is fine spiritually. We create space for honest questions, anger at God, and the kind of doubt that often accompanies profound loss. If you are willing to engage with Biblical perspectives even while questioning them, our resources can support your journey.
How do I know which course is right for me?
If you are in the early stages of grief or have never engaged with structured grief support, start with Faith-Based Grief Recovery. This foundational course covers all the essential elements of processing loss and rebuilding your life.
If you have done initial grief work but are struggling with the practical challenges of daily life after loss, consider Rebuilding After Life-Changing Loss.
If you feel stuck between merely surviving and fully living again, From Surviving to Thriving addresses that specific challenge.
If your grief involves trauma, suicide, estrangement, or other complicating factors, Navigating Complicated Grief is designed specifically for your situation.
If you are supporting someone else through grief, the Supporting Others Through Grief course will equip you to help effectively.
Not sure? Schedule a free 15-minute consultation call and we will help you determine the best fit.
Can I take courses at my own pace or are there fixed schedules?
All online courses are self-paced, meaning you can watch video lessons and complete exercises whenever fits your schedule and emotional capacity. However, courses also include live monthly Q&A sessions with Jerry and access to the private community forum, which operate on a schedule. Recordings of live sessions are available if you cannot attend in real time.
What if I enroll in a course but find it overwhelming?
First, contact us immediately. We can provide additional support, suggest pacing adjustments, or discuss whether a different resource might serve you better right now. Remember that full refunds are available within the first 7 days of enrollment if you have completed less than 25 percent of the content. We would rather you find the right support than feel pressured to continue with something that is not working for you.
Are your events appropriate for someone who is very private about their grief?
Yes. We create safe, confidential spaces where sharing is invited but never required. You can participate at whatever level feels comfortable. Many attendees choose to listen and process privately during their first event, and that is completely acceptable. No one will pressure you to share your story before you are ready.
I live far from Ohio. Can I still benefit from GoHopeful resources?
Absolutely. While our in-person events are currently held in Ohio, all of our courses are available online from anywhere in the world. Books ship throughout the United States. We also offer virtual coaching sessions via video call, so your geographic location does not limit access to most of our resources. We are actively working to bring in-person events to additional locations in the future.
What happens to the prayer requests I submit?
Prayer requests are received directly by our team and prayed over personally. We respond within 24 hours to acknowledge your request and assure you we are praying for you by name. Your request remains completely confidential and is never shared publicly unless you explicitly grant us permission to do so. We treat these submissions with the sensitivity and reverence they deserve.
Can I share your course materials with my small group or church?
Course materials are licensed for individual use only. If you want to use GoHopeful resources in a group setting, please contact us about group licensing options. We offer special arrangements for churches and organizations that want to facilitate courses with multiple participants.
Do you offer scholarships for people who cannot afford courses or events?
Yes. We never want financial constraints to prevent someone from accessing support they need. We offer a limited number of partial scholarships for courses and events. Contact us at jerryt45042@gmail.com to discuss your situation. All scholarship inquiries are handled confidentially, and we work with individuals to find solutions that make participation possible.
How long does healing from grief typically take?
There is no standard timeline for grief. The process is different for everyone and depends on countless factors including the nature of your loss, your support system, your previous experiences with loss, and your coping resources. Our approach does not focus on reaching some finish line but on making consistent progress toward integration and renewed purpose. Some people find significant relief within months. Others work through grief for years. Both experiences are normal and valid.
What credentials does Jerry Townsend have?
Jerry is not a licensed therapist or counselor. He is a grief coach, author, and speaker whose work is grounded in personal experience with profound loss, years of studying how people heal from grief, and deep engagement with Biblical wisdom about suffering and hope. His teaching combines lived experience, practical wisdom, and faith-based guidance. For clinical mental health needs, we recommend working with licensed professionals, and our resources can complement that professional care.
Can I purchase your books or courses as gifts for someone who is grieving?
Yes. You can purchase books through Amazon or our shop and have them shipped directly to the recipient. For courses, contact us to arrange gift enrollment. We will provide the recipient with access information without revealing the purchase price. Please consider whether the person is ready for structured grief work before gifting courses, as timing matters significantly in the healing process.
Do you offer resources specifically for children or teenagers grieving?
Currently, our resources are designed for adults. However, our Supporting Others Through Grief course includes guidance for parents helping children process loss. We are developing age-appropriate resources for young people and plan to release them in the future. Join our email list for updates about new offerings.
What if I start feeling worse while working through your course materials?
Sometimes grief intensifies when you begin processing it actively instead of avoiding it. This can actually be a sign that you are doing the necessary work. However, if you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm, severe depression, or symptoms that interfere with daily functioning, please contact a licensed mental health professional immediately. Our resources are not substitutes for professional treatment when clinical intervention is needed.
Can I contact Jerry directly with questions?
For course participants and coaching clients, yes. Jerry responds to emails and participates in live Q&A sessions for enrolled students. For general inquiries, our team will respond, and more complex questions are directed to Jerry personally. While we cannot provide individual coaching through general email inquiries, we do respond to every message we receive.
I'm interested in becoming a grief support facilitator. Do you offer training?
We are developing a facilitator training program for individuals who want to lead grief support groups in their communities using GoHopeful resources. This program is not yet available but is planned for future release. Contact us at jerryt45042@gmail.com if you are interested in receiving information when it becomes available.
